Making a charitable donation
How can your donation benefit DDNA members and the people for whom they provide care and services?
DDNA's mission is to provide specialty education about intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) to nurses and others, thereby improving the quality of care for people with I/DD. Most nurses get very little, if any, education in nursing school about the care of people with I/DD. Nurses new to I/DD nursing need education and information resources. And because knowledge in the field of I/DD is advancing rapidly, all nurses who work in the specialty if I/DD nursing need an expert source for continuing education and information updates. DDNA is constantly challenged with finding the ways and means to meet its educational goals. Your support would be greatly appreciated. If you wish, you can direct your contribution directly toward funding specific education programs, such as:
- development and distribution of education that is accessible to nurses right where they live and work via live "webinars," audio programs, video programs, and web-based education and testing.
- creation of a DDNA speakers' bureau to provide certified I/DD nursing experts to speak at other national nursing specialty organization conferences - because all nurses - in every specialty of nursing - need to learn about best practices in the care of persons with I/DD.
- sponsorship of DDNA's peer-reviewed journal, the International Journal of Nursing in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. There is currently no funding for development or distribution of this journal. Additionally, DDNA would like to offer nurses continuing education (CE) for reading journal articles and completing post tests. DDNA would be most appreciative of funding for development and distribution of these tests.
- scholarships for deserving nurses who can not otherwise afford to attend the DDNA National Education Conference.
As the saying goes, "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." DDNA's mission is to teach nurses how to provide optimal care for people with I/DD -- not just today, but throughout the lifetimes of their nursing careers. And your donation goes much farther than just one lifetime, because nurses teach what they have learned to other nurses and caregivers. And then these other nurses and caregivers improve the quality of care that they provide to people with I/DD, and teach other nurses and caregivers. So your charitable donation gives not once, but positively affects the lives of people with I/DD many times over.
DDNA is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. For your tax purposes, DDNA will provide written acknowledgment of your charitable contribution and, if you wish, you will be added to our list of donors.
